As LHDN e-Invoicing reaches more firms — every firm with annual revenue of RM3 million and above — many are evaluating e-Invoice solutions for the first time. The market is now crowded with generic invoicing tools that claim LHDN compliance — but most are not designed for legal practice. Before you commit to any solution, ask these five questions.

Question 1: Does It Support Client/Matter Billing?

The defining characteristic of legal billing is the Client/Matter structure. A client engages your firm on one or more matters, and billing is tracked per matter — with professional fees and disbursements recorded separately for each.

Most generic invoicing systems treat every invoice as a one-off transaction. They do not understand matters, cannot track disbursements against a matter over time, and cannot generate a consolidated statement for a client with multiple matters.

Ask: Can I create a matter under a client, record billing items and disbursements over time, and generate an invoice that covers the full matter? Or does every invoice start from scratch?

Question 2: Does It Have a Live LHDN MyInvois API Integration?

An e-Invoice is not the same as "can generate a PDF invoice." For a billing system to issue e-Invoices for you, it must submit each invoice to the LHDN MyInvois API, receive LHDN's validation response, and attach the LHDN stamp (UUID and QR code) to the invoice delivered to your client.

Some systems claim "e-Invoice ready" but have not yet completed LHDN API integration — meaning they cannot actually submit invoices. Ask for proof.

Ask: Is your MyInvois API integration live and tested? Can you show me a validated invoice with an LHDN UUID and QR code? Do you have existing clients who are already submitting through LHDN?

LexBill has been in production use with live LHDN MyInvois submission since 2025. We can show you validated invoices from existing clients.

Question 3: Does It Handle Disbursements Correctly?

Disbursements — court fees, stamp duties, registration fees, land searches — are a significant part of legal billing. Under LHDN's e-Invoice format, each disbursement must appear as a separate line item with the correct tax classification.

Generic invoicing systems treat disbursements as a line of text you type manually. This creates errors, audit risk, and extra work for your accounts staff.

Ask: How are disbursements recorded? Can I track them against a matter as they occur, or must I enter them manually when generating each invoice?

Question 4: What Is the True All-In Cost?

Many systems advertise a low headline price but charge extra per user, per branch, per invoice, or for "premium" features like API integration or support. If e-Invoicing already applies to your firm, you do not have time to discover hidden costs after you have committed.

Ask: What is the total monthly cost for my entire firm — all users, all branches, all features, all invoices? Is LHDN onboarding assistance included, or is it a separate charge?

LexBill is RM 150 + 8% SST/month for your entire firm — no per-user charges, no submission fees, LHDN onboarding included.

Question 5: Is There Local Support?

LHDN compliance issues, invoice errors, and system questions arise at the worst times — usually when you are preparing an urgent invoice for a client. You need support from a team that understands Malaysian law firm practice, speaks Bahasa Malaysia and English, and responds within business hours in MYT.

Ask: Where is your support team based? What are your support hours? How quickly do you respond to issues? Do you have someone who can assist with LHDN queries specifically?
